Sundee G. Stephenson received her undergraduate degree in psychology from N.C. State University in 1992 and her undergraduate degree in social work in 1993. After graduation, Sundee worked as a social worker for five years. While working as a social worker at Dorothea Dix Hospital, in their pre-trial unit, Sundee decided to pursue a career as an attorney. She graduated from The Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University in 2001.

After graduating from Campbell University School of Law and receiving her Doctor of Jurisprudence in 2001, Sundee moved to Carteret County and began practicing law as an associate attorney with a law firm in Morehead City, North Carolina. Additionally, for approximately four years, from 2002-2006, Sundee was the contract attorney for Carteret County Department of Social Services and spent a great deal of her time representing DSS in juvenile court handling abuse, neglect and dependency matters and termination of parental rights matters. She also represented the Department of Social Services in adult protective services litigation.

In 2005, Sundee started her own law firm, Stephenson Law Firm, P.A., in Morehead City, North Carolina. Instead of a general practice, Sundee opted to focus on family law and domestic matters, and has continued to do so ever since. Family law encompasses prenuptial agreements, post nuptial agreements, separation, divorce, equitable distribution (property distribution), post separation support and alimony, child custody and visitation, child support, juvenile matters, termination of parental rights matters, and in some cases elder care when it involves adult protective services matters.

In 2009, Sundee combined her law firm with Attorney Bradley Schulz, forming Schulz Stephenson Law. The law firm moved their practice from Morehead City, North Carolina to their current location in Beaufort, North Carolina in 2010. The office is conveniently located across the street from the beautiful Carteret County Courthouse.

Sundee G. Stephenson became a N.C. Board Certified Specialist in Family Law in 2012. The benefits afforded to a Board Certified Family Law Specialist are experience, knowledge, and professional reputation. The North Carolina State Bar certifies lawyers as specialists in designated practice areas, such as family law, and does so as a service to the public. This assists members of the public in the selection of legal counsel by identifying lawyers who have demonstrated special knowledge, skill, and proficiency in a particular area of the law, such as Sundee Stephenson in the area of family law. The North Carolina State Bar’s specialist certification program also gives lawyers a credible way of making their expertise known to the public and other lawyers.

In addition to being an accomplished attorney, Sundee served as the secretary and treasurer for the Carteret County Bar Association from 2002-2003. From 2003-2004, she served as vice president of the Carteret County Bar Association and from 2004-2006, she further served as president of the Carteret County Bar Association.

She has been active with the Family Law Section of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice; is currently a member of the North Carolina State Bar Association Family Law Section; and a member of the American Bar Association.

Ms. Stephenson knows the importance of having a close and happy family. Bradley Schulz, Sundee and her sons, Trey and Blake, reside in the Down East Community of Straits. Trey has graduated high school, and continues to further his education. Blake, in high school, plays baseball year around. Bradley Schulz coaches various Down East baseball programs; and Bradley, Blake and Trey are all avid duck hunters. Sundee’s sister, April, and her family, reside next door to Sundee, Bradley and Blake Down East. Family and family law matters are very important to Sundee Stephenson.
