What Disability Benefits Are Available?
Two programs distribute financial support to workers with physical or mental disabilities that prevent gainful employment. These programs are Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
Each program has specific eligibility requirements regarding medical conditions. Generally, the applicant must have a medical condition that has caused or will cause a year or more of work to be missed.
Social Security Disability Income also requires that the applicant has spent a certain amount of time in the workforce prior to seeking benefits. There are no age requirements, but applicants over 65 are automatically moved to retirement benefits.
What if a Claim is Denied?
It is not uncommon for Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income applications to be denied. That doesn't mean the process is over.
The case can be appealed to an administrative law judge. That judge will determine whether or not the applicant qualifies. We have the experience necessary to carefully prepare these appeals, which we believe can dramatically increase the chances of success in these complicated matters.
